    I’ve noticed lately that sometimes FCP is vertically smearing video frames. I’ve double checked my tapes and the disgtortion is definately happening during capture. It seems to be random(if I recapture the frame is usually fine). I’m captureing via SDI on a Kona2 card from a J3 deck. The deck was recently serviced so I doubt thatis the issue. This has been happening onmultiple tapes. That leaves the Kona card or the computer as the cause.

    Any ideas?

    Smeared? Do you mean that some frames are incomplete, with the same line repeated all the way down from a certain point?

    If so, it’s an IO problem, and could be the card or the disk array – sorry not to be more specific, but you’ll need to try removing components and isolating the problem. Try using the card to capture DV of some flavour to a FW drive…
