  • External Firewire A/Bswitch causeing dropped frames?

My firewire A/B switch seems to cause drop frames but only intermittently when playing from the timeline. When the switcher is unplugged and out of the mix, the live timeline playback is fine. Here’s the switch I have:

I have used switches before without this problem. Anyone?

(oh yeah a Mini DV Deck and a DVCPRO Deck is what’s attached)

I have this switch and it has been temperamental. If the cables are not seated just so you can have problems with the connection. Also I’m on my second unit from Sign Video. The first unit caused playback and capture problems. Sign Video willingly sent me a new box and it works fine as long as the cables are properly seated. Move the box too much and the connection can be lost. Also there is a limit to the length of the cables. I can’t remember what it is, but I have nothing longer than two meters on any port.

That said I have been using the switch for almost two years with no other problems.
