After years of FCP work, I’ve found a little nugget of newness. I’ve found a little bug that only wreaks havoc if you have to redig, or do any kind of multicam work. Not a BIG deal…

So, here’s the problem. After capturing a clip, the timecode (media start) resets to 00;00;00 and the reel name/number reverts to 001. So, if i don’t need TC this is ok, but ummm… this is supposed to a pro/prosumer platform.

This system is at a freelance client’s location so I can’t tell you the specs of the box right now. I’m just checking to see if someone else has had anything remotely resembling this problem.

    Any ideas?

Give more info. How was this footage captured, what version are you running, what’s the name of your first born, etc etc etc.

The setup is from memory. Here goes.

    FCP 5.0.1 maybe…
    DVCAM 1080i 29.97 source
KONA2 capturing @ DVCProHD capture preset.

This happens randomly. A restart will often clear up the problem, but not restore TC to the clips.

    Capture hardware?

There’s no such thing as DVCam 1080i.

And the footage was captured suing rs-422 deck control and using the log and capture method and not capturing now?

    Same problem here !!!

First noticed this yesterday when we had to recapture multicam stuff. Big Bug. Happened with dvcpro50 stuff. FCP 5.1.1. I had to edit the tc in the quicktime file, cause this stuff was on its way to be resynced for audiopurposes. (a workaround is to duplicate the clips that will be rebatched, so that you can copy – paste the tc info into the rebatched clip.)

    This must be fixed.

yes, rs422 but it is coming in through a house router. I wonder if, during the route, something is lost. It’s coming in off a sony J3 deck, HDSDI, not firewire.

    Anders,
is your deck connected DIRECTLY to the FCP system, or is it comin in through a router of some kind?

I have found this will happen if you have FCP set to ignore TC breaks and alert you after. If you set it to make new clip I think you’ll find the problem will go away.

the source is HDCAM dubbed from film @ paramount. There are no TC breaks.

For instance, if i capture 10 clips from a tape, each clips TC is reset to begin @ ZEROs and the source is reset to 001.

Directly connected just with a firewire cable, no rs-422. First tape ok.. then suddenly i got those tc errors.
