Edit to Video
Posted by Jason Jenkins on October 19, 2006 at 9:10 pmI’ve got FCP 5.2 here, hooked up to a UVW-1800 Beta SP deck. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to edit to tape with bars, slate, black, timecode, etc… without striping the tape first. I’ve got a bunch of dubs to make and it would be great if I could skip a step!

October 19, 2006 at 9:52 pmJust put all of these things on the Timeline (part of your edit) and then just hit RECORD on the deck and PLAY the timeline.
I do this with all my commercial dubs.
You can set the TC on the 1800 to 00:00:00 (or any other number you like) before you record.

The other thing you can do is just “stripe” the tapes for 30 seconds or so, then ASSEMBLE-edit from FCP during the area that is striped.

I need the program to start at exactly 01:00:00:00

OK, that’s why I offered two options.
Do the second idea I suggested and Assemble Edit “back-timed” so that the PROGRAM material begins at 1:00:00:00.

Can I do that without striping the tape? It works fine when I stripe the tape but when I try without I get “end of tape” or “no timecode” errors. I was hoping to avoid the step of striping the tape.

Yes, that’s why I suggested it.
🙂
Again, you must use “ASSEMBLE” mode (not “Insert” mode.)
Assemble also records timecode and control track on the tape along with your audio & video material.

October 21, 2006 at 3:14 amI must have a setting wrong somewhere because it won’t work for me. It works fine if I stripe the tape first.

October 21, 2006 at 3:38 amI cannot see how you can do this without striping at least the first couple minutes of tape. That is what I do, stripe a tape just past the 1:00:00:00 mark (from 58:00:00) and then Assemble Edit.
I cannot see how you can do this at all accurately without striping the tape at least a little bit.
