  • Help me dudes! convert 30fps to 24fps

Posted by Chaddd on October 17, 2006 at 2:50 pm

    Hey dudes,

Here’s my situation. I’m editing a 24 fps digital film which will eventually be projected. Most of the material will be either shot at 24p on dv or 24fps on 16mm film. Here’s the thing. Some of it will be shot at 30fps on a Nikon Cool Pix but I want to convert it to 24 fps for style reasons.
Does anyone know of a cheap way to do this? or do I have to go to some kind of video transfer house?

    Any help would be appreciated,
    Chad

Why a still camera? I have no idea what format it records in, but I find it likely that it’s some kind of 30 fps progressive format.

Just FYI, you’ll get better results going from 60i (normal DV) to 24p than from 30p to 24p. It sounds like you haven’t shot this yet. I’d suggest getting the cheapest DV camera you can and using that instead of the coolpix. (Unless you can find somewhere that the Nikon DOES record in a 60i format, but I kind of doubt it.)

Hey Ed, thanks a lot. I’ve been having difficulty with.

Also, no intention to offend. I’ve called women dudette before and a few times they found the “ette” sexist simular to “ress” at the end of actress. I found that woman like being called dude in person but maybe because I’m writing in a forum, it’s impossible to know that I’m calling everyone dude. Dude has so many meanings! In the future, I think I just say something like “Hey good people of the world, I need your help”.
Again, thanks for your help and your concern for democracy.

I wasn’t offended, I just forgot to add a smilie face. And I’m not sure what’s more offensive
to a woman, being called dude or dudette. 🙂
Ed (who calls women actors actors)

Nattress is great for converting 30i to 24p.
Only $100 or so. Such a deal.
But rendering is a bitch. It takes awhile.

I just used it to match the Panny SDX900 24p SD look
to a DigiBeta 790 30i. It looked fantastic.
Actually, better than an Panny, but that’s just because
I like the Sony look better. But I digress.
