    Hi,

I’ve been having problems trying to put scrolling text into a video project. No matter what I try it looks blurry and pixelated.

I’ve tried using Final Cut’s built in crolling text effect, built a project in after effects and used a photoshop file and uncompressed tiff to do a manual scroll in FCP. All have produced the same effect. I’ve also tried all of the above in both a DV and Uncompressed timeline. I’m viewing it at full resolution on an NTSC monitor so it’s not a matter of output. Also, I’ve double checked to make sure that everything is fully rendered. When I watch the quicktime made in after effects in Quicktime it looks fine, but as soon as I import it into FCP it’s very grainy and pixelated.

    Can anybody help me please?

    thanks

    Mike

    Two things….

    1. Try shifting your graphic up or down one pixel. For some reason FCP has trouble with alpha channel graphics on odd pixels. Are you working in SD or HD?

    2. Check to make sure that your Render Settings are set to “Best”.

Biggest offender? The RT Pop Up Menu. Set it to Safe RT. Quality Full (NOT Medium or Dynamic) and Frame Rate Full.

If that doesn’t work, look into using the built in generator called Title Crawl. It’s in the Generators>Boris Folder. This is where you should’ve made your roll in the first place. Apple’s built in is rather old and doesn’t have many features. An AE roll can have errors, as can a PS file that is keyframes. Title Crawl brings down the error level to nearly zero.
