It might be a Quicktime thing. Try the fix at the link below:

October 9, 2006 at 6:25 pmHmm, I’m having problems with FCP seeing my DV decks – I get audio but no video. I tried the Quicktime reinstall trick with no luck. I’ve now discovered that when I’m trying to log, I can see the video if I set the capture to DV PAL (even though the miniDV tapes I’m using were all recorded to DV NTSC). Anyone else experiencing this?

October 9, 2006 at 6:27 pmHave you tried trashing the FCP pref. files?

October 9, 2006 at 6:48 pmOkay. The next thing would be to make sure your DV decks haven’t been changed somehow so that they’re outputting in PAL instead of NTSC. Just a guess. This is uncharted territory for me, since I don’t use a DV deck, but just a FW camera. The fact that you’re at least getting the audio tells me that FCP and your decks are communicating (re: the QT fix above) but that they’re just not doing it properly. Sorry I can’t be of furthur help.

October 9, 2006 at 7:44 pmWell, I got it working. I switched out the firewire cable yet again, and this time plugged it into the port on the back of my G5 instead of the one on the front. Thanks all for your suggestions!
