  • efficient export to mpg2 workflow/plugin?

    Hello,

I have about 50 hours of programming that I need to convert to mpg2 files. As far as I can tell FCP doesn’t export directly to mpg2…so can someone suggest an efficient workflow for me to export to mpg2 from fcp. Would compressor do this? I’ve dabbled with compressor but am not a big fan since it crashed a lot and the interface seemed kind of counterintuitive.
But maybe it’s changed since I last used it and with the updates and such…

    here’s my project:
community tv studio converting old svhs and minidv programming to mpg2 files to be uploaded to digital video server playback system (Princeton Server Group’s B1000). I purchased their “C500W MPEG Encoding Station” (it’s really just a Windows “Shuffle”) that uses Ulead studio10 as the editing/conversion program. Ulead studio10 is a very basic editing program (- it doesn’t have “dissolve” transition- go figure) and has a real cumbersome interface…well, I guess I’m just used to good ole FCP’s.

So, I’d like to do everything using Final Cut Pro and a plug-in or additional encoding software. Suggestions? Thanks for your help in advance

If you’re having problems with compressor, it’s likely that you have a suspect software install…

Should be running FCP 5.0.4 with QT 7.1.3, and OS 10.4.8.

If you haven’t rebuilt your startup disk in a while, it’s probably time.

I’ve an article about this in the COW magazine, might be worth a read… https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=https://www.creativecow.net/magazine/cowmag_subscribe.html

Compressor is the way to go here it sounds like to me…

There are other MPEG solutions, however they cost and when you already have what it takes…?

You can export directly to compressor from FCP too file/export/using compressor… have you tried this?
