Be careful of your DIMM Risers in the Mac Pro
Just a word of caution for you new Mac Pro users, be very aware of the DIMM Risers when you close the outer door on your new Mac Pro, especially Riser B, the lower one.
Our DIMM Riser B is no longer recognized by the Mac Pro after one week of use so it’s already going in for service. Either the Riser itself is bad or something is bad on the logic board. The AppleCare rep I spoke to said “yes, I see a history of this issue, we’ll try a few things but I think you’ll need to take it in for service.” So obviously there have been other people who have lost a DIMM Riser already.
The one thing I noticed about the B Riser is that you can bump it with the outer door when re-attaching it after installing something inside the Mac. Not sure if this is what happened to cause an issue on our end, but something I wanted to point out to everyone. You need to be sure to angle the door out from the machine when inserting it back in so you don’t bang into the Riser.
I’ll let you know what the support center tells me as to whether it was the Riser or the Logic Board that failed. We know it’s not the RAM because I have two extra 1GB sticks sitting here that we swapped out and it didn’t work.
