Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Mov or mp4? Does it matter?

    In theory H264 delivers high compression rates and thus smaller file sizes, but with excellent quality. So, only use H264 if you want the combination of small file size and excellent quality.

    Thanks for reply – what I meant was (and I should have stated it) I normally use H264 with mpeg 4, and I wonder what if anything is the diff between doing that and using H264 as an mov file (instead of mpeg 4)…I’m rendering an mov as we speak, making an mov at 320 x240 using H264 to see what it looks like and what file size is, but the rendering takes SO long, I wanted to get some pro feedback on the subject while I’m waiting.

    OK the mov was 17.4 mb and the mpeg 4 was 4.4 mb – with no vastly different quality. So I’ll use H264 mpeg4.

    Excellent Kent!!! I was going to suggest that you try it out to compare, thats always best to see these things with your own eyeballs.
