I shoot with the Sony VX2000 set on 16:9 and I use the latest Final Cut Pro, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro.
There must be a way to create one DVD and have it play with letterbox on a standard set and fill the screen with the correct aspect on a wide screen set.

Yeah, you master the SD in anamorphic… and set the 16×9 flag in DVDSP to on.

What do you mean by mastering?

I think he means you cut and/or finish in a 16:9 sequence, export in 16:9 (make sure you select 16:9 in compressor) and create a 16:9 DVD. Any DVD player I’ve encountered has been able to automatically display properly, depending on what it’s playing through, though I’d test first.

The only thing that still confuses me in this process is whether to use a 16:9 or 4:3 menu. I guess if you know you’re ultimately viewing on 4:3, go with the 4:3 menu. I’ve tried with a 16:9 menu, but it displayed stretched on a 4:3 TV. Could’ve been a mistake on my part, though.

I guess I’m going into DVDSP forum territory, now.

Thank you both for the help.
It worked out well. What I had done was capture 16:9 footage and made sure the anamorphic option was unchecked. The sequences were checked for anamorphic. The export was selected as 16:9 directly to compressor.
With DVDSP I selected 16:9 in the encode settings and it worked like a charm. 🙂
