  • default transition problem?

i didn’t see anything via post, but i bet this is an easy one (i hope.)

i set my default v transition to be a x-dissolve w/ a 20 frame duration, center on edit.

in the timeline, with the playhead centered between 2 clips, when i use cmd-t to apply the default transition, i can only get a 1 frame dissolve that drops in to the right of the playhead. (and both clips have plenty of handles)

    what am i missing please?

    TIA!

very common mistake. You need to have enough video footage on both sides of your clips. For 20 frame X dissolve, you need 10 frames on each side.

thanks steve – i forgot to mention that this are stills that i’m wanting to x-dissolve.

i’m using the ‘fit to fill’ function for dropping them into the timeline, so i’m not sure how come FC is not seeing plenty of handles to work with?

do i need to set an in & out point in the clip with enough content to each side?

    or?

    thanks again!

What type of stills? Sounds like photoshop layered files. Do the files show up as sequences in your browser? if they do, set your still duration in your User Prefs to at least 5 seconds longer than your longest duration. You will need to set an in point.

if you are using jpgs or tiffs, there is no need to set an in point.

I would avoid using fit to fill. It is unnesessary. Stills can be set to up to 1 hr.
