  Best Compression for HD Project

  What would be the best compression to use to capture HD to eventually online in high res(1080i 8bit Uncompressed)?

  What format did you shoot? What format will you deliver?

  You can offline at HDV, or DVCPRO HD then recapture at the final resolution. Or just drop your native HD resolution (HDV, DVCPRO HD) into an 8-bit uncompressed timeline and render…or use a Kona 3 to output to those specs after editing natively…unless it is HDV. HDV needs to be captured at DVCPRO HD for that to work.

  A post house recommended DVCPROHD for onlining because I was on a tight budget. Once they showed me the frames from uncompressed and the same frame in DVCPROHD, the differences were barely distinguishable, which was good enough for me. 1/10th bandwidth in comparison to uncompressed more than makes up for the marginal difference in apparent quality, if you need to minimize your costs.
