• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  FCP call for help.

  Hello all.
  Here’s tha scoop, and the call for help…

  My friend and I shot a music video for a local band. We used the Sony HDR FX-1. Overall, it looks great except for a couple of shots looked way out of place and really “video” looking.

  Now, I went back and watched the original clips and have come to the conclusion that the shutter speed was too high (the actor walked from a bright spot of sun to a darker, shady spot…and I didn’t adjust!!). Most of the viddy was shot using 1/30 or 1/60 shutter.
  I messed up.

  SO, now I’m editing.

  The call for help:

  Is there any filter or trick I can do to make those shots look like they were 1/30 or 1/60?
  I tried blur effect and retiming a tad, but no dice.
  I know nothing will look like the real thing, but anything close would be awesome.

  Any tips would be great for this newbie!

  Just guessing but I’ll bet these guys don’t have $90 to spend.

  You have two choices, maybe three. Okay, four.
  1. Buy the plugin.
  2. Eat the mistakes and make the best of it. Be creative. Sell the effect.
  3. Reshoot.
  4. Use it as is.

  Look backwards from the end product. What’s it worth to you or the band? Be realistic and attach some dollars to the fantasy you are weaving. If you had been paid to do this video, how much would you have charged then or their record company? How much do you owe them for the screwed up shots? How much are you going to collect from them and how much will you refund?

  If you cannot make your bad shots work, you must replace them.

  Thanks for the advice guys.

  Yeah, the video is a free project, as the band are friends of mine. The shoot was on the fly during a drunken BBQ. I was just kept rolling and following them around. I’m usually on the ball about settings, but I dropped it this time.

  I’m gonna try to do some layering tricks and cross my fingers. Worst case scenario, check out those plug-ins.
