I tried to do this: I have a footage of a guy riding a bike. I want him to freeze when he’s close to the camera, write his name over freeze and let him go.
So, I made a freeze frame, inserted it at same place on timeline, select it and use Send to Motion project command. But what has opened in Motion is beginning of that clip, not the freeze frame.
    Does anyone knows what happened?

Its probably easier if you make the freeze in FCP then import just the writing from Motion using the animation codec with a transparent background. Overlay this on the freeze.

I prefer to things that way to fine tune timings as you can then slip the animation, add a dissolve off etc.
