  Image soft after rednering widescreen effect in FCP HD (Please help)

  Hi:

  my gear: PowerMac G4 867Mhz, 1 Gig Ram, FCP HD.

  my problem:

  I have just edited a 3 minute project and am putting a wide screen effect (either 1:85:1 or 2:35:1) on the footage. After I do it and adjust the offset , the picture seems blurry, unclear, and not as sharp as it was. It this something experienced during playback in the timeline or will this negative effect stay on the footage after exporting to DVD/tape/the web?

  Some of the blurred clips have also been color corrected.

  any help appreciated.

  try Sequence Settings -> Fields = none,

  Hi charlie,
  thanks for the clues. it does not blur now, however now in the rest of the clip in the timeline has lines where ever the movements are. upon export, it disappears, but would you know what causes this?

  No, don’t change your field order nor would you ever turn it off (I really don’t know how that idea started here).

  It’s your rendering: make sure the RT Pop Up is set to Safe RT and everything else in High or Full.

  Also check your Sequence > Render menus and make sure “FULL” is checked.

  Upgrade to FCP 5 as the rendering in FCP 4.5 is not as good.

  FCP 4.5 always looked terrible with a widescreen filter. assuming you didn’t do any DVE moves, setting your fields to none gave you the crispest letterbox edges.
