  • Stabilize Helicopter pictures in HD – Which plugin is the best?

Posted by The Dagfather on September 15, 2006 at 7:06 am

We have got some great, but a bit shaky, helicopter footage in HD (1920*1080) to be used in a SD film.

Which plugin suits us best? We are using FCP, Shake, After effects.

Shake and After effects are in the mail so I haven’t really got the chance to try it out in those yet, but I just wanted to get the plugin ASAP. We are really on a tight schedule, and these pictures needs to be GOOD!!

    Thanks for all the help..

Shake is the best. And there is a tutorial on how to do that here on the Cow.

While I agree Shake is the Best Bang for the buck, the Brand New Boris Red 4 includes Optical Stabilizer which is very good.

    Steve,
You got RED 4 already? That was fast!
How do you like the new timeline? It looks very After Effects-ish.

Red 4 has been ordered but not received. I was going to be a beta tester but I my work was too important to risk the bugs. I can’t wait to play around with it. I did spend some time at NAB with it.

Is the optical stabilizer in Red 4 really better then the smooth cam node in Shake? I’m curious, because the smooth cam node is amazing. I guess I’ll have to demo the new version, Boris Red is a great product.

    Best Regards,

Smoothcam is great and highly recommended. If you need even more control, then we’ve used PFTrack with PFStable and got wonderful results, particularly on aerial HD. It’s a true 3D solution.
