I cut a jazz festival and have both a stero and a 5.1 mix to accompany the show. Since I made the cuts to the stereo mix and have since exported and compressed using them as a pair, how do I now sync the 5.1 files? Lining them up in DVD Studios Pro is far too tedious and unresponsive. Is there a way to do it in Final Cut Pro? As far as I know you have to use compressor to assign all of the 5 individule channels, and that is the only way. The problem is that the stereo mix has been cut apart from the show individually by song, and the 5.1 is the entire show. I need to be able to sync the files in, hopefully, some other way than dragging them back in forth in DVDSP. Someone please help!!!

Your best bet is to lock your picture and then send the audio facility your finished stereo track and have them recreate the 5.1 file synced to it.

You could have them send you the 5.1 channels as individual files, sync them in the timeline and export each new edited channel file back out separately, but when it comes to encoding the final .ac3, I like to let the audio facility handle it to ensure it meets Dolby specs for certification and logo use.

There are alot of little nuances when it comes to properly encoding a 5.1 file, ESPECIALLY music. I prefer to leave it to the experts.
