Can anyone direct me to a matting tutorial for FCP 3 or FCP in general? My objective is to matte a foreground object over a background, USING an intermediate layer (which I create externally) as a holdout matte. What are the settings so that the middle matte layer can make a hole for the top layer to be matted through?

    thank a lot!

I’ve got three tutorials on travel mattes in the Features section, or you can click on my head above and scroll down to find them.

The simple answer is that you set the composite mode for the top layer to ‘travel matte – luma’, assuming you’re using a greyscale matte in the middle layer.

I’m getting cramp typing this tonight. Read Walter’s tutorial, it’s really nice, m’kay?
