  Real-time Camera “Log and Capture” Interrupted | Corrupted MOV file | Repairable?

  While using Log and Capture on FCP 5.0.4 to capture firewire video signal from HVX-200 (DVCPRO HD/100 footage at 24 over 60). Setup is camera on tripod, firewire to a laptop capturing streamed footage in Log and Capture real-time to hard drive. Has worked like a charm for months.

  The process usually creates a MOV quicktime file of each L&C take.

  Either because of power surge or disc access error, the log and capture (to the hard disc) froze requiring a restart. L&C worked fine a few dozen times before and after but this one take caused Quicktime file corruption.

  Result.
  Next to the normal QT files from the other takes, there are numerous created files

  Take102-av
  Take102-av-1
  Take102-av-2
  Take102-av-3
  Take102-av-4
  Take102-av-5
  Take102-av-6
  Take102-av-7
  Take102-av-8
  Take102-av-9
  Take102-av-10
  …..
  and so on 76 times

  The first Take102-av is 1.74GB
  but all the others are 8KB

  Clearly there is a file which contains the streamed video and audio info (Take102-av) captured real-time but since it was not properly closed, it is unreadable.

  Won’t play in Quicktime, won’t import to FCP or Compressor, other utilities can’t detect any media info. It does seem to be a temp FCP file which just was not closed properly into a QT file because of the interruption. Just like if you did a Log and Capture and simply turned off the power.

  Does anyone have suggestions as to how to QT close this file, or track inside the video frames information and turn into a video file. Basically how to repair/transform this/these files to reaccess the footage.
  Any way to repair the quicktime file? convert it? look into for the audio and video info? restore or recalc the closing info to wrap it up as a proper QT file?

  Sounds like your HD was not formatted properly. Is it a new drive and could you have possibly forgotten to format?

  Hard drive is the OS Drive of the laptop. Formatted HFS+ and verified constantly. Please note above that all 31 other takes were recorded entirely normally to the drive, but only a single one failed to close.
