    hello there

i’m quite a newbie to all this hd stuff so aplogies upfront if i ask something ‘stupid’.

i’m trying to capture a 15secs clip of an hd cam tape (1080i/50) in fcp.

here are the settings i’m using:

    Sequence Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 – 10 Bit
    Capture Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 – 10 Bit
Device Control Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50
    Video Playback: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 25Hz – 10 Bit (1920 x 1080)

after logging the clip it starts to capture the first few seconds but then i get an error message – to be exact – i’m getting two different kinds of messages.

locating timecode break – which definitely can’t be as the tape doesn’t have an tc break

but this message doesn’t even come up all the time – a few times i got the error message about fcp dropping frames while capturing.

after i got this tc break message i changed the Device Control setting to ‘Non-Controllable Device’ and captured the source ‘live’.

but even with that i got the ‘Dropping Frames’ error message!

it captures a few seconds of the clip (which by the way look really nice) but not more than that!

i have been spending all morning on this trying to solve it but no luck – i just don’t have any clue at all.

    any help is greatly appreciated

    thanks a lot in advance

    fahaad

Are your drives fast enough to sustain 1080i playback and record? You can’t exactly record this to a firewire drive without it choking after a fews seconds.
