I haven\’t been able to have anyone at Apple support give me an answer to this question so I\’ll turn to you. I am looking at purchasing an intelmac MacBook, Core Duo at 1.83GHz, 1 gig memory with 60GB hard drive. I am also purchasing a 100GB external drive. Do you know if this new system would be able to run Final Cut Pro2. I have heard that old software my not work on the new systems.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

    Nope.

The Intel Macs can run a lot of older software through an emulation layer they call “Rosetta.” Unfortunately, the “Pro” Apple programs won’t work that way. Things like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word will, but Final Cut won’t.

You’ll need to upgrade to Final Cut 5.1, which you can do here:

    https://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

It will cost you $699, but for that price you’ll get Final Cut 5.1, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor. All of that usually costs $1,299, so the upgrade price is pretty good.

FCP 2 will only run under OS9. I don’t think it’s possible to run OS9 on any intel mac.

I know I never have a budget for the latest and greatest software and hardware, but FCP2?
    C’mon into the 21st century! 🙂
