I’ve been using FCP since 1.5 and I’ve never seen this! We digitised some digibeta footage to our network drives using the normal log and capture method using a blackmagic card with version 5.04 of FCP. On re-opening the file after capturing all of the reel and media start/end information had gone missing, meaning we are unable to recapture from these clips. what is even stranger is that about one in ten clips has retained this information, making it very difficult for me to understand what is going on!

has anyone ever seen this before or have an idea how I can troubleshoot?

    thanks

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Is the media on the drive or is that gone too?

No, the media is still there – realy strange

and with regards to the preferences (previous post), it is the same across all FCP systems we’ve tried (networked storage, multiple edit stations) , perhaps it is a problem with the clips themselves?

Try importing one of those clips and see if the data is there. If not, it might be something funky with your Network Attached Storage. That is a bit out of my realm, but it sounds like maybe it’s not handling the metadata correctly.

Hopefully someone that is more experienced with NAS will chime in.
