  Online Editing Setup

  OK, I’m in a bit over my head here and could really use some advice.

  Basically I’ll be editing a feature film transferred to digibeta. Lets say I have a decklink card and I’m using SDI. What kind of FCP system would you reccomend? I’ll be dealing with the guts of four hours of footage. I’ve been looking into RAID, SCSI etc and am confused. I take it a firewire 800 drive wont cut it? I have access to an ol G4 1.42 dually that I could try and soup up or do I pretty much have to get a new system to cope?

  Assuming you’re editing SD, a Firewire 800 RAID is fast enough for 8 bit, but 10 would be a stretch. You can get a SATA enclosure that would be much better. Cheap right now too, I just got a 4 drive 2 terabite SATA RAID for around 1400 bucks. Got the enclosure and card from Firmtec and the drives from mwave.

  The G4 will do just fine. Don’t forget a decent NTSC monitor.
