  FCP Project Wont Open

  I created a project in FCP 4.5. A friend took the project and finished cutting it on a newer version of FCP. I now have the project back and when I try to open it the following pops up:

  “File’s format is too new for this version of the application.”

  It won’t let me open the project. What should I do to open the project?

  I think you will find that it’s not backwards compatible. You will have to upgrade.

  You might also be able to export to XML in the newer FCP and import that in 4.5. Use the earliest verion XML export format available in the newer FCP.

  the xml works. you’ll have the cuts but you’ll lose some other info (filters, etc)
