I have recently started using final cut pro and was wondering if anyone could recommend what project settings to use when creating a new project. I am using a kona LHe and most of my footage is dv. I am trying to find the best way to configure the project settings so that I can get real time previews and an external monitor preview out of my kona. Everything I capture using kona settings forces everything to be rendered. Is there any way around this?

Certainly the Kona manual came with instructions on how to set up your projects?
There’s a Kona Web site and there’s a Kona forum here on the cow, I think.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Without meaning to be crass, you should use project settings that are appropriate to the project. If you’re working with DV, use DV settings. If the next project is 8 bit, use 8 bit. It may vary from project to project, and many projects go through an offline phase, followed by an online where the settings change.
