    Howdy!

I’m in big trouble. I have to have a cut of a golf competition done in the next day or so. I’m connected to Sony DSR – 45p via firewire. FCP does not pick up the deck on startup. From Log and Capture I CAN control the deck (play, stop, etc) but I can’t see anything or capture anything. I tried my camcorder which has always worked – same thing. Strangely I can capture no problem from the deck and coamcorder into imovie – I just dont want to unless theres no other way (how am I gonna output to tape?) Tapes are dv cam. I’ve tried every setting I can think of! Firewire is listed as missing for external vid playback…any ideas? Please?

First, try a new easy setup.

Second, do you have any other firewire devices connected?

Third, if none of the above works, try this, especially if you have recently upgraded your os or quicktime:

I’ve had a similar problem with this deck. I realize that you’ve also tried it in your camcorder, so that is a bit discouraging. But if you’ve already tried easy setup, and had no luck, try this – crazy as it seems – close FCP. Hit play on your deck – leave it running.
While the deck is still running, launch FCP.
    Open the capture window.
For some reason, it sometimes then recognizes the deck.
    Good luck.

Thank you so much Jeremy…it was the quicktime receipts. I’m very grateful for your help – I’d never have known about that.
