  • changed the settings on a fcp sequence… now my viewfinder is sized oddly.

    hey guys-

I live and breathe in After Effects, and that forum. First time being here, so I apologize in advance for improper lingo…

    So here’s the deal.

I have a Final Cut Sequence that I changed the settings with, turning the aspect ratio from 640×480 to 720×486. The existing footage, and new footage all come in fine (pixels are rectangular and show no signs of being squashed or stretched).

The issue comes up in the viewfinder- the window now appears too wide (I have a band on the right and left side). When I render out, that band is still there.

If I create a new sequence, starting with the correct settings I want, I have no qualms with how anything looks or is outputted. I can not, however, copy and paste the footage from the old timeline over (the viewfinder again gets too wide, also some footage becomes vertically stretched).

Any idea on what is causing this problem with the original sequence (sequence settings? footage settings?)? I really don’t want to rebuild the whole timeline.

    thanks,

    r

640×480 is a square pixel aspect ratio. 720×486 is a non square pixel ratio. That is your discrepancy.

    jeremy-

thanks, but perhaps i should rephrase the question.

I took over someone’s composition, changing their 640×480 to 720×486 (for broadcast). I’ve been now importing in all-new footage that has been rendered in AE so that it has non-square pixels.

FCP 4.5 isn’t reacting the way I expected. My new images are not squished the way you would see them if they were in a composition with square pixels, but the viewfinder now is extra long- having two bands on each side.

The question is, other than starting over and rebuilding the whole timeline from scratch, is there anyway to fix this problem?

Is it because, during the replacing process, I have both square and rectangular pixels in 2 different sizes?
