  Creating image files from 24p footage

  Hi,

  I’m working on a macbook pro witth OSX and FCP5. I’ve got footage shot on miniDV 24p (using the panasonic dvx100b)with the widescreen setting (adds the wide screen bars to 3:4). I’m new to FCP 5 AND 24p and I’m having trouble exporting image files for burning onto dvd – before, as long as the ‘make movie self-contained’ box was NOT checked, a 60 min timeline could be exported as a reference (image) file in a matter of minutes. However, now even when that box isn’t checked it takes over an hour to export the image file. Also, the files are several gigs in size…which is nothing like the image files that are created when using 30p…

  Is there a reason I can’t make an image file with the 24p footage? Any work arounds, or things i’m doing wrong???

  The export may be reformatting the video to 29.97fps, which is why it takes so long.

  But, if I understand your question, you’re exporting the file to use, unedited, in a motion menu. If this is the case, and you’re using DVD SP, you can avoid this step all together.

  After exporting your MPG2 file and importing your assets into DVD SP, you can just drop your assest into your menu. You can adjust the starting point, the duration of the clip in the Menu Inspector.

  Actually, all i’m trying to do is burn dvd’s with timecode of my raw footage for transcription & logging. I’ve been using idvd.

  With my 24p footage can i bypass the 29.07fps conversion by using a different FCP settings for the sequence?
