Editing SD w/o capture card
I have a possible SD project, but have no capture card or SD deck. Can I have the footage captured to a RAID on someone else’s system, install those drives in my RAID, then edit on my own computer, without a Kona or Black Magic card?. I would then take the project file and drives back to have them output to tape on the other system. Do I need the card in my computer to edit SD, or just to capture and output? Thanks.

As long as you have the codecs, you will be fine.
I have done this more than once.

The only downside to editing without an SD capture card or an AJA Io is the inability to view your project on an external monitor. Without that, you will not be able to catch any interlacing issues with fonts or images, nor will you be able to color correct accurately for regular TV.

Thanks for the help. Another question –for a short program, could I use the second internal drive (250 gigs) as a media drive for a SD project, or do I need to have a RAID?

Possibly 8-bit….possibly. You are really best going with at least SATA Raid for uncompressed work.
