My vendor says the Kona 3 and the Blackmagic HD Link won’t live together. I just don’t see why and I’m not sure they understand. It’s just HD-SDI out to a DVI scaler/converter…right? The HD Link has HDMI and seems more willing to play out to HD Plasmas and various other tv/monitors. AJA seems to think the HDP won’t work so well with all the different configs I may throw at it.

Anyone with real-world experiences? Have the Samsung 42″ Plasma and the Samsung 32″ HDTV and the DELL 2405 which will be no issue for either but I need the producer (my wife) to see while not sitting on my lap!! (that one’s for you Tony!!)

    Thanks gang!

    Don,

I don’t know about your particular combo, but at one shop here they tried Kona2 to a Sony Bravia using an AJA converter (HD-SDI to DVI) and the Sony never liked it. They ended up just using the Kona’s CAV output to the CAV inputs of the display and it works just fine. Auto-senses the resolution changes as needed. In the case of the HD Link, I believe there is software that has to be installed and controlled over USB for some of the settings and LUTs. I don’t see why there should be a conflict, since there are no codecs involved, but you never know. I would check whether the HDMI from the HD Link actually works with your displays, too.

    Sincerely,
    Oliver

We have AJA Kona 3 and HD Link and use it to monitor DVCPRO HD 1080i50 and 8-bit Uncompressed 720p25 to an Apple Cinema Display 23″.

    It works fine!
