I use AE quite often to create transitions to be used in FCP. Normally for alpha channels, i use Animation with Alpha.
but for normal without transparency, i go DVCPRo in which my final ingest will be in. BUT, somehow, the quallity somehow
drops. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the quality drop when i export from AE to be used in DVC Pro.

I usually export to QT movie [ self contained] then to AE then export DVCPro to be back into FCP for further editing.

    thnx

If you do alot of this work then you might want to look into getting Microcosm. I use this to go between FCP and AE. It creates a file that is about 1/3 the size of animation codec and islossles that also handels 16 bit not just 8 bit like Animation codec.

When you go from FCP to AE just use your actual media file, if you do that you don’t have to worry about recompressing or exporting or anything. If you only want to deal with a small section of media you can export a QuickTime Reference movie, again you won’t recompress so you’ll know you’re starting in AE from a good place.

When you render, render to the codec that matches your FCP sequence preset. If you render to another codec, FCP will render the movie to your sequence preset for you. Animation is a good codec to use if you render with an alpha channel.
