    Hi Guys

I saw this posted ELSEWHERE and thought it was a great idea. Since this board is so much more active…I thought I’d copy it over here…any ideas (I’m new to fcp but I think the media management has a lot to be desired)…

    COPIED FROM ELSEWHERE…”
I know this is a main complaint among Final Cut Pro users, but I
was wondering if anyone has ever seen an applescript that would automatically
pop up the System Settings/Scratch Disk dialogue every time Final Cut Pro is
opened? I’m sure you can understand how with students in a 30 seat lab,
    where files end up!

I’ve been working on an applescript, but with not much
    luck so far. Thanks!”

I think that the best way to automate this is through the Graphical User Interface (GUI).

If you turn on accessibility frameworks in the Universal Access System Preference (off by default) then you can applescript the applications’ menu access.

“Once the accessibility frameworks have been activated, AppleScript can be used to query and control the user interface of most applications. Scripted actions are performed by addressing the System Events application which has a special script suite for communicating with the GUI Scripting architecture.”

Here’s a link at apple about activating the user access scripting:

    Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply….I wish I understood what you are talking about. I’ll get this to one of my buddies…

I think this would be a super handy feature!

Basically, Universal Access it the part of the graphical interface that allow physically challenged people to use the Mac.

If you go to that control panel, you can enable scripting of the user interface. Then if you open the script editor, you can see that there is a dictionary of scriptable commands, within System Events, in the System Events Suite, within Application, within UI elements you have items that are scriptable, including those contained by “menu bar items” “menu items”.

This allows a person to script so that a challenged person can activate menus. You can use it to have applsescript activate menu items that you choose.

I haven’t tried scripting Final Cut this way, but I think it would be possible.

I’ve heard that there are not many ways to use Apple Script with FCP. Just one of those things.
