for a certain time now whenever i boot up FCP the “can’t recognise external device” window pops up and when I’m using FCP i can control the deck through my log and capture controls, but can not see or hear anything in the capture window.

it is not a firewire fault as i can still capture into iMovie

it is not a uniquely FCPro fault as i found it did the same on my final cut express.

have used same deck before with FCP with no probs

i have tried trashing fcp prefs but to no avail.

please help…i have no hair left.

I had the exact same problem. It happens to me once in a while and I found out that in the capture log window, I have to change my capture settings and the video comes back and I can capture. Let’s say you’re capturing in DV NTSC 48khz, change it to DV NTSC 24p pulldown and back to your regular setting. It should work.
