odd filter stuff…
was having trouble getting a good solid single-field freeze frame on an action sequence (even though it looked great on the Canvas AND on my external monitor, but then i have “show single-field” in my FCP prefs. also, NONE of my video filters were making any difference on any of the monitors…so i trashed prefs.
new project, all video filters apparently working fine, though now the freeze frame effect it was either showing the two-field jiggle, or was a single field but with tons of “jaggies”. went back to the old project and had the same problem with the video filters not affecting anything. went back to the new project, pulled up some of the same clips that were also in this older project (where filters were having no effect), and the effects worked fine in this new project.
my conclusion is that this old project is somehow corrupted, but how do i fix it? (i thought this kind of stuff only happened on PC’s…)

There is no problem with your computer or FCP. You need to choose the DEINTERLACE filter. VIDEO FILTERS>VIDEO>Deinterlace.

You also can get rid of field combs in photoshop with the video filter. Choose one field or the other.

but even the color correction filters were not affecting anything in this project. that is the wierdest part of this whole deal. in a new project, the same clips could be affected by all filters, but in this project i see no effect…
