  • monitoring HVX 200 footage

I have a G5 dual 1.8 running 5.1.1 FCP. I have a Panasonic HVX 200 camera and shot some footage on the P2 cards. I imported them into FCP. Here is my problem, what should I set my sequence at and easy setup to edit in real time out to my monitor or is this possible? I shot it in 720 24p DVC PRO 50 HD. I have the Fire wire running throught a sony DSR 40 deck from my computer. I heard you can view footage from the sequence in real time like DV footage. I can view frame by frame or when I scrub my footage in the sequence but when I hit the spacebar for play it says it needs to be rendered. I have no effects or anything in the footage just raw from muy clip. Is this possible or do I need to render every time I move a clip or do anything? Please any help would be great.

[visulfx] “what should I set my sequence at and easy setup to edit in real time out to my monitor or is this possible? I shot it in 720 24p DVC PRO 50 HD.”

if you shot on P2 in the 720p24 PN then use the default 720p24 easy set up

if you shot 720p24 the footage will need to be imported into FCP and Run the Software FRC that was designed for content from the varicam.

Apple’s white paper on editing with the HVX200 https://images.apple.com/pro/pdf/L317074A_FCP_Wkflw.pdf

    FYI

DVCPRO 50 is an SD codec
    DVCPROHD is the HD version

Thanks so much! But here is the problem Im still having. I have changed my sequence settings and recorded some test footage in 720 24p on the P2 cards. In my sequence it plays fine now without rendering everytime I want to move or anything like that and I can see it on my NTSC monitor but its only the frame Im sitting on not in realtime when I press the space bar. I hope this makes sinse. Thanks again

If you are watching it through a DSR-40 deck, it will only show you 1 down converted frame of HD. 720 24p is a DVCPRO HD 100 format, not a dvcpro 50 format which can be 480p or 480i. You’ll need to get an hd card like the AJA Kona or the Decklink card and a monitor, or an hd deck. Also, if you go firewire from FCP to your HVX200, you will be able to watch the footage from final cut on your flip out lcd monitor, unfortunately, when the firewire is working the hd component out on the camera doesn’t work. Sorry!
