MacBook Pro or Imac?
I am trying to decide between a 17″ MacBook Pro or a 20″ Imac as a third system. I already have 2 full G-5 editing stations. I would like to be able to take the system home for the weekend to do some work every once in while. I think the Imac is still not too heavy that I couldn’t do that. I do have a job coming up in August where it will entail shooting 6 PSA out of town. I’m just confused between the two. Does anyone have some input which may help me decide. It seems as though I’ll get much more for the money on the Imac. Heck, for what the MacBook Pro costs, I could buy a quad G-5 Power Mac. Any advise would be appreciated.

If it were me, I’d go MacBook Pro.
Much easier to pack and carry on an airplane than an iMac, even if you get the iLugger bag for the iMac.
Plus, you can use the MacBook on the airplane.
iMac only has the one FW bus and no way to expand. You’re limited with what the iMac can do, compared to the MacBook Pro.
Unsolicited opinion, I like the 17″ model for editing. Yes, you can add a second screen to a 15″ and get more, but I like as much real estate for my timeline as I can get, and you can’t really effectively put the timeline across the laptop screen and the second monitor without making your eyes go wiggy.
When I was buying, that was the reason I went 17″ instead of 15″. The downside to the 17″ didn’t outweigh the extra real estate on the screen. Yes, the 17″ is heavier than the 15″, but it’s still lighter than most 15″ PC laptops, so it’s weight is relative.

How do the Macbooks handle HD? I’m contemplating picking one up (but waiting until after the 13″ers come out)… my only hesitation is that they might not be able to deal with HD frames. I’ve never used a notebook to edit before — can anyone list pros/cons about running FCP on notebooks?
