Break in cadence Varicam 24P
When trying to capture from Varicam HD 24p over firewire, I keep getting an alert that says it dtected a break in cadence with the pulldown. When I look on the capture scratch there is no clip capture although the break in cadence doesn’t happen until 20 minutes into the tape. Just to give you more details, I put in in and an out at the beginning and end of the tape before capturing, and I’m using the Easy setup for DVCPro HD 24p.

That is an indication of two things:
1) a timecode break in the tape due to turning the camera off or changing the battery.
2) The DP changed the settings from 720p24 to 720p60 or some other setting. The format differs therefore the cadence is different.
SOLUTION: Log and capture. A clip for each time the camera is started and stopped. OR…Capture Now (with device control) and when the error comes up, it will stop and save the clip from where you started recording up to the point where he cadence break occurred. BUT…make sure to name the clip before you start capturing. Otherwise you will have a bunch of UNTITLED clips, and that is not good.

Capture Now is not smart enough to handle what you are doing,
Follow Shane’s advice — but when you get to the problem area Capture that content in smaller clips as 59.94 then run the software frame rate converter to get the proper frame rate. My guess is the camera man did not give you enough headroom for a frame rate change.gary adcock
