best way of blowing PAL image to HDV
Hi, i have edited a film in HDV format, but i have some archieve material that is in DigiBeta. i need to blow it up, because later all the film will be blow up to 35min.

You can simply scale it in FCP, although some folks say that the scaler in After Effects is better.
Or you can hire a company to do hardware scaling, which gives the best quality, at a price.

compressor does a fantastic job with the new frame controls, it can even retime the footage to 24p. but why go to hdv? for editing, sure, but you’ll probably upres the hdv to uncompressed hd for the blowup anyway so it’s better to go directly to that from digibeta.

I just did a PAL 25fs to HD upconvert. We used a Teranix to up convert it and blow up the PAL to fit side to side, which cropped the top and bottom, which was fine because the footage was full app. So it was just like an 2.35 extraction.
HOWEVER, It looked like poop. I mean really really really bad. If you have to do this just keep the black side bars, unless your client is blind.. then I guess it doesn’t matter.
