audio levels for non-broadcast project
I’m familiar with -12 or -20 db for broadcast for audio levels. What do you guys set you levels at (average level that is) for a non-broadcast, straight to DVD project. Its an exercise video with professionaly recorded VO and stock music as the majority of the audio.

i mix my masters to -20db with peaks at around -8, then bring this up to -12 and 0 respectively for festival screening copies, since you’ll be playing with films that haven’t been sound mixed at all and thus have a dynamic range from around -3 to 0 at best, which means projectionists always turn down the volume for the entire show. a similar strategy could certainly be used for non broadcast video copies.
