April 27, 2006 at 7:57 amNahh, just lots of flowing cocktails, tons of prizes and a bunch of great folks laughing it up.
Seriously though, the Apple FCP development team did show up and gave a demo of Shake interaction with FCP, but it did have some issues. But what can you expect with Shake running HD footage on a macbook pro 🙂 Apple set up a couple of P2 camera booths and you could sit down and give a 5 minute testimonial on what you like, dislike, feature requests etc.
The main topic the FCP team talked about, was the integration of XDCAM into a FCP workflow. It is not shipping yet, but you will get a software update from Apple if you are running 5.1 (universal) and then will be able to download free software from Sony in the future.
Seems like Apple is in a transition period and we should not expect much till the new Intel based towers start to ship later in the year.

THAT was really cool and well worth the $16 price of admission.
Nah, just kidding. I had you, though didn’t I? Seriously though, really great to see everyone again tonight and it’s always fun to watch Michael, Kevin and Gary run the raffle. Michael’s comments to the winners are always worth the price of admission.
Actually the coolest thing was a college student winning a brand new JVC HDV camera. Very very cool to see someone like that win a very nice camera.

Mike, thanks to you and all your co-horts for a fun event and I look forward to another great evening in 2007!
Oh and the Rio was a great change of location too. Really really nice!

April 28, 2006 at 11:41 pmGreat seeing you too Walter!
Thanks to all that came. Good times were had by all. I agree – the RIO was very classy indeed. I liked the separate area where you could talk and laugh it up w/o disrupting the meeting. The shorts were very good quality and it was cool how the program was broken up with work from actual users. I missed the space alien gal though!
In addition to myself, the following people were on the FCPUG planning committee: Mike Horton, Gary Adcock, Dan Berube, & SF Cutters’ Ambassador Claudia Crask.
Thanks to the committee and of course, all the sponsors who made it happen.
OH! And there will be a Podcast up soon, so all can experience “the love” of 67 FCP User Groups world-wide all meeting in one place.
We’ll let ya know when it comes out.
