    Hey, guys

I have a client who is experiencing jittering video. This is a studio with three 2.7 G5’s running on an XSan system. Only one of the G5’s has this problem. All of the G5’s have a Kona 2 card installed and one of my techs thinks it’s a genlock problem. I have not seen the video yet so I don’t know what it looks like. It never happened before and the systems have been in place for over a year. Does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be? The other machines can get the same footage and see it fine and edit to tape with no problem. We’ve tried a new Kona card but that did not help.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I use the IO and the Kona LH and have only seen “jittering” video when I tried capturing from a DVD player that didn’t have sync/genlock, so I think you are on the right track looking at genlock sync issues.

Without more info, it’s hard to help. What format is everything coming from and what are you you digitizing to? Are you sure it’s not your monitor? Are the FCP settings all kosher?

Give me some more meat and I’ll bite into the problem. It could be a field order issue, a driver situation, mismatched settings, apple voodoo, electrical anomalies, editor sabotage, dirty heads, bad cables, not enough chocolate, crappy coffee, stuffy producers, rainy day, PRAM choke, hardware failure, software blowouts, bad sectors, good sectors, corrupt preferences, bad binary translation, firmware fallout, and oh yes, the OS. See what I’m getting at here?

    Jeremy
