capture HD to DV project
I’m working on a project that was shot 4:3 DV. However, I was just given some footage that was shot HD 16:9. I have a HDV camera that I can use to capture the footage, however, I’m not sure how to do that properly. Also, can I convert or crop the 16:9 to 4:3?

I will make the presumption that you were given an HDV tape and you want to plug the tape into your HDV camera and down convert it to SD 4×3. If the tape was shot with the same HDV format as your camera and your camera is Sony you are probably in luck. Plug in the tape and go to your menu and set the ilink convert to the desired downconverted format and then set the downconvert menu item to Squeeze or Edgecrop (which ever works).

Yes, you decifered my message correctly. The footage was shot HD on a JVC camera but it plays on my Sony Z1U. I’ll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks.

I’m trying to capture the HD from my Sony Z1U but FCP is having trouble reading the video and it won’t capture. Any suggestions? I have the camera menu set as follows:
VCR HDV/DV : DV
component: 1080i/480i
i. link conv: On
Down Convert: Edge Crop
A/V DV Out: offThe computer can control the camera VCR mode, it recognizes the timecode from the tape, but it just won’t capture.
