    All…

I am using a Sony HVR-Z1U and am downconverting to standard video for most of my videos. I use FCP 5.04 with a dual processor G-5 and I capture/store my video files to a firewire drive that I have used for years. The source tape and camera are fine. When I “capture now” in FCP the clip looks and sounds OK in the capture window. But when I import the captured clip into FCP and try to play it in the timeline, the video and audio start speeding up after about 30 seconds as if they’re in fast-forward and the audio has a “clicking” sound to it. I have tried capturing directly to the SATA hard drive, and I have used different sources (Beta deck and anothe Sony firewire camera) but I have the same problem. I don’t pretend to be an expert at FCP and I’d be willing to bet that I have a setting set wrong, but I can’t find it. Any suggestions?

    Just to make sure,
For DV SP the fast easy way is:

    Final Cut Pro (pull-down menu) > Easy Setup… > DV-NTSC > Setup

Yeah, it’s set up for DV NTSC in and out. A little more info – I don’t think it has anything to do with my camera because I also input Beta via a Sony BVW-50, which goes through a Sony media converter to make it firewire, and it still has the same problem. I sure appreciate the quick response and the help – this is throwing me a real curve and I need to get it fixed.

    I just discovered something else…

I did some experimenting and recorded only video – I un-checked the audio box in the “clip-settings” window under “Log and Capture”. Now, the video plays great and does not look like it’s fast-forwarding. Of course, I have no audio but that tells me that the problem is somehow related to an audio setting. Does that help you understand my problem better?

Was the audio on the TPAE recorded at 48 kHz (16 bit) or 38 kHz (12 bit)?

It really should not matter that much, but we need to check these things.

    Are you capturing to:

    A. Internal Mac Drive (same drive with system and FCP app)?

    B. Internal Mac Drive (DIFFERENT drive than system and FCP app)?

    C. External FW Drive (connected to different port than camcorder/deck/capture card)?

    Matte…

Thanks for all the help. Just so you know, all the audio was 48 KHz and the firewire drive and internal hard drive were all configured properly. I got so frustrated that I reinstalled FCP and so far, the problem has not manifested itself. (My fingers are crossed)

I do appreciate the fast help.
