Blade cut keyboard command
What is the keyboard shortcut to razer blade a clip in the time line? Sorry for the simple question. When I hover over the blade it shows a -b but that does not seem to “cut” (split) the highlighted clip. What is the keyboard shortcut?

You will not only edit faster, but you’ll learn how to do things you never knew how to do in the first place. If you have down time, just go through the list and try the ones that you’ve never used before…. who needs a manual?

“b” selects the blade tool. You still have to click the timeline to actually make the cut.
I think Mike wants a keyboard command that makes a cut at the playhead?
CTRL+V does that on the default keyboard. If you’ve remapped things, search for “add edit” in the command list.

Just a suggestion –
map the ‘/’ key as add edit (no modifier)
it works well – try playing a long clip in the timeline, dropping edits as it plays by hitting the / key and when you stop playback hey presto a load of edits appear (good for cutting music)

This is the best FCP keyboard map in my experience. What is really great about it is you can open it up in Mac OS X Preview or Adobe Acrobat, Command+F (Search), type a key word like mark, canvas, viewer, et al and it will take you right to the all shortcuts keys related to say like mark, mark in, mark out.

Or add one modifier like:
Command+/Since / = pan right
He could use the Command key just to the right of the spacebar close to the forward slash.
I like your forward slash — / — suggestion because it gives the feeling of slice and presently it only has one function assigned to it.

Its amazing how much u learn & find through doing shortcuts. My boss who is an ACE would not sit on an edit with me unless i knew the shortcuts. It took me about a week to get all the down all the shortcuts she needed. Cut to me a year and a half later and i’m a 1000 times more proficient. I can’t believe I only found last week that if u hit b twice quickly u get the large blade tool that cuts multiple clips on multiple tracks. It just saved me a ton of time and a whole lot of RSI. I wish i had looked more closely at my FCP Keyguide place mat 8 months ago…

You can also do this in FCP 5 (and maybe 4.5 too, I don’t remember) by hitting option+J

True but the .PDF also gives you a visual keyboard map that may help jog your memory so it is easier to remember rather than just a Final Cut Pro Button List.
Adding to your OPT+J, if you CTRL+click (or Right+click with a 2 or 3 button mouse) in the darker grey area to the right of tabs in any window you will get a context menu with the following:
