March 11, 2006 at 1:33 amI can’t believe what horrific reading comprehension you guys have (except for debe). He said clearly that he knows to select the blade tool is “B”. Duh.
He wants to know the keyboard shortcut for “split clip” as it’s called in Media 100. The idea is to razor the selected clip where the playhead is located. And unfortunately this command doesn’t exist in Final Cut Pro.
Ctrl-V (add edit) is the closest thing to it. However, this will razor all of the clips in every video and audio track.
In order to do a split clip, I use a 3rd party tool that can perform keyboard macros. So when I press the key, it does: “B, left mouse click, A” all at once. It only works right when snapping is turned on.
This may seem over the top to some, but many of us come from other NLEs. Having to use three keystrokes instead of one for a commonly used task is very, very annoying.

Use the timeline’s Auto Select feature to direct the ctrl-V command.
So if you have 8 video tracks and 4 audio tracks, but only have video tracks 1, 3, and 7 auto-selected as well as audio track 3 & 4, the cnrl-v command will place a splice in only those tracks.

March 11, 2006 at 6:03 pmWhich is very similar to what you’d have to do with an Avid….if you have a stack of layers, the Avid doesn’t know which ones you want to add the edit to when you hit the Add Edit command. You have to select or deselect tracks there, too.
I don’t know how Vegas or Premiere Pro or any of the other NLE’s can tell without some sort of selection made. If you have more than one track, in ANY NLE, you have to tell it which tracks you want.
