  • Transitions seem to add a frame in 23.98 timeline

I have 720p24pN footage shot on an HVX-200. Footage looks great and has slow pans and movement. I have it in the proper Easy Preset sequence for this footage. Everything is fine. However when I add a 1sec dissolve transistion between clips it “appears” to add a still frame at the entrance. In fact I loaded the 1sec dissolve into the viewer and the time was 1:01. So I manually made it :23 frames long. Now it looks fine going into the transition but hangs on an “extra frame” on the exit. This really makes great footage look like the pans jerk, and I honestly don’t know what’s going on or how to work around it. It’s almost as if the transitions don’t conform to the sequence timeline or something.

Also, I’ve fully rendered and it comes out that way so it is not a previewing issue. Thanks!

I’d like to know more about this too. I’ve had a similar problem in a 23.98 16:9 timeline where frames from the transition get duplicated after the transition is complete. It’s driving me nuts!

What OS are you running? I’m running OSX 10.3.9 and I’m begining to think that’s the problem. Another thing is that it plays through with out the “extra frame” when it is not rendered (green). But when I fully render, there it is. And it’s really unacceptable.

    I’m actually using 10.4.5 on a Powerbook G4 1.5GHz, with FCP 5.0.4.
No other version of FCP ever gave me problems with this. It’s not only with transitions, sometime filtered clips on top of other clips will have the same effect.

Well, then OS is not the problem. Maybe there is something about doing this on a PowerBook? I’m running FCP 5.0.4 on a 1.25G G4 PB, 1G Ram, OSX 10.3.9. I wish we could figure this out.
