HELP!! Frame Rate Conversion-EEEEEK
I have a client who tells me they shot Varicam 1080P 24 fps (23.98). They then downconverted for offline to DV/DVCam codec at 29.97. Now they’ve brought me a sequence that was cut at 29.97 and they want to uprez and conform back to 24fps. EEEEEEEEEK!!!!
Is there any reliable solution? Is there any reasonable solution?
Looking into Panasonic’s Frame Rate Converter plug-in – although I don’t think it was designed for this.
Thought of uprezing at 59.98 then using “Remove Advanced Pulldown” – but not sure how it will effect transitions and audio sync.
I hear there is a “Conform” tool in FCP but that it’s clunky, slow, and unreliable.HELP!!!!

Export an EDL from his cut. Use Cinema Tools to convert the sequence to 23.98. Import that into FCP and recapture.
The DVCPRO HD Frame Rate converter is for converting 59.94 footage to 23.98 slow motion.

Varicam 1080p 24? I don’t think that is an existing format.

Indeed it is not. Varicam is 720p. Most (all?) 1080 cameras are 1080i or 1080Psf.

Right, I understand – it’s actually 720p / 60 – like the dv cameras that say they record 24p are actually 29.97 with pull down. Regardless, they set up the camera for 1080psf 23.98 and I have the AJ- HD1700 deck that’ll do the conversion and output 1080p/23.98 which means I’m digitizing 1080psf/23.98 source material for a sequence that has been cut at 29.97. And THAT is the part I need help with. I’ve exported an edl and converted it to a 24 fps edl using cinema tools then re-imported into FCP. Not sure fx/transitions came over correctly. I’m gonna do a test on the first five minutes of the movie by batch capturing and checking against referance cut.
Any suggestions?
