  • Editing 16:9 Problems…

Posted by Wayne Carey on March 1, 2006 at 3:12 pm

I seem to be having a problem editing 16:9 footage in a 4:3 timeline. I have all my footage selected as anamorphic and I place it into the timeline and it seems like the video is very harshly compressed after rendering. I get horizontal and vertical shifts in my transitions, I get ghosted lines at the top and bottom of my video and sometimes my footage (after rendering) looks like its extremely compressed. Has anybody seen any of this?

I’m using FCP 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.5. My footage looks awesome in the viewer on my main monitor but when its rendered it looks very soft and highly compressed. HELP!

I captured my footage as anamorphic and my sequence is not. I wanted a letterbox effect for this program. All of the footage is already shot in 16:9, so therefore I had to digitize all of it as anamorphic.

…then your sequence should play fine, without rendering. Is your sequence set to the exact same codec you captured your footage with, for example DV NTSC, 29.97 fps?

If so, you can always check do this:

Yes… my sequence and my footage are all set to IMX50 which is my main codec since we use Sony’s XDCAM system.
