  • HDV is Lumiere the only way?

Posted by Phil Bucci on February 28, 2006 at 6:34 pm

Im just try to educate myself here. Is the Lumiere software the only way to work with HDV footage in final cut? And is Lumiere good for all types of HDV or just good for the JVC HD cameras?

If you know of any other software or other methods to work with HDV footage in FCP id be very interested.
    Thanks
    Phil

FCP 5 works with HDV just fine. It is the 24p HDV footage that JVC shoots that no NLE works with. For that you need Lumiere or HDVxDv.

No NLE? Using the Cineform plug-in the 24p JVC stuff works and looks fantastic in both Vegas 6 and PPro 2.

I stand corrected. As of December 2005, there wasn’t one.

Nice to know there is now.

Hey Shane, thanks for the post back. I have one more question. So basically if you have final 5 your ok for HDV formats except for the JVC format correct? But with any format do you still need a HDV deck or camera to import/dig the footage?

    thanks again

[Phil] “. So basically if you have final 5 your ok for HDV formats except for the JVC format correct?”

It works with 720p30 just fine. It is only the 720p24 that is cannot work with yet.

[Phil] “But with any format do you still need a HDV deck or camera to import/dig the footage?”

This is true about ANY format…minus the P2 which records to memory cards. ALL other formats record to tape. How are you going to get the footage off of the tape and into an edit system without the use of a deck or camera?

Sorry, that seemed like a very odd question to ask on your part.

Sorry I ment to say do you need an HDV deck/camera to dig the footage? I have the sony dsr25 dvcam deck but from my understanding it will not be able to read the media with HDV footage on it.

    thanks again

Yes, you will need an HDV deck to read the HDV signal.
